Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has ruled against ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of spreading false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to posting hurtful comments about the pair's significant age difference.
The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A circulating conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these claims on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she taught at his high school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
